Important Information on the Revision of the SON Regulated Product List for Exports to Nigeria.

All exporters to Nigeria are hereby informed that SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria) and CBN have just released information on a revised RP list through their circular vide TED/FEM/FPC/GEN/01/095, which is to be implemented within 90-days from its issue date (5th June 2009).

According to this circular, all products/ goods (except those regulated by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control-NAFDAC) imported into Nigeria will be covered under the SONCAP programme. In addition to the products covered under NAFDAC, products that are also exempt from the SONCAP include the following:

Food products
Drugs
Medical Products (other than equipment and machines)
Chemicals used as raw materials
Military ware and equipment
Aviation related products
Industrial Machinery for manufacturing
Used products (other than automobiles)
CKD bicycles, motorcycles, automobiles for bonafide manufacturers/ assemblers.

Based on the transitional period given in the referenced circular, the new list will come into effect from 5th September 2009. For further information on the new Regulated Product list please contact your local Soncap office
